Immigrant Defense Network Manager

A Contracted or 1099 Position.

The Immigrant Defense Network (IDN) is looking to hire a Network Manager to coordinate and implement its strategic direction under the direction of the IDN Steering Committee. This network is already in place and has ongoing activities.

About the IDN: The Immigrant Defense Network comprises roughly 90 organizations, including community-based groups, individual activists, and nonprofit organizations. The IDN aims to advocates Minnesota’s immigrant communities in the short term while working towards a broader pro-immigrant political and narrative shift in the long term.

To achieve its goals, the IDN will mobilize directly impacted immigrants, rally allies to advocate for human rights, and engage the public to support the immigrant community.

The Network Manager will be based at COPAL office and will report to a supervisor there, while also receiving direction from the Network’s Steering Committee.

Primary Responsibilities of the Network Manager: The Network Manager will oversee all aspects of the Network’s operations in consultation with the Steering Committee. They will provide strategic leadership that guides and implements the Network’s goals, ensuring effective execution and evaluation to meet the Network’s objectives.

Steering Committee Management

  • Organize regular meetings, which includes scheduling calendar invites, setting meeting agendas, and preparing speakers and members for productive discussions.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration to facilitate sound decision-making.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with Network members as needed to foster relationships, enhance meeting productivity, and achieve Network objectives.
  • Act as the primary contact for any vendors, ensuring that deliverables are of high quality and delivered on time.
  • Create and maintain a calendar that highlights important milestones and deadlines.
  • Assist in gathering materials to support grant proposals and reporting processes.
  • Manage all information and documents produced by the Network.
  • Support the facilitators of IDN Committees to ensure smooth operations.
  • Share updates on network efforts and achievements through grant reports.
  • Aid grant writers in crafting grant proposals.

Support facilitators of working committees.

  • Assist facilitators of working committees.
  • Act as the main point of contact for Network members.
  • Collaborate with the Steering Committee to oversee the distribution of sub-grants to Network members through a sub-granting program.
  • Support sub-grantees in meeting the obligations outlined in their grant agreements, track their metrics and activities throughout the grant year, and work with them to create an end-of-year report.
  • Provide facilitators with development opportunities, logistical support, and a consistent framework for accountability.

 Develop and implement a comprehensive 18-month Network Strategy Plan and Evaluation.

  • Coordinate with the Steering Committee and engage a contracted evaluator to assess the Network’s strategic goals, work plan, and activities, making necessary adjustments along the way. Support the evaluator with generating two yearly reports.
  • Ensure the Network stays on track to meet its objectives, and address any questions or challenges that may arise when adjustments are needed
  • Establish a communications strategy that aligns seamlessly with the Network’s policy goals.
  • Monitor and showcase the Network’s successes, while actively identifying gaps and collaborating with the Steering Committee to address any needs that arise.

Coordinate Network Communications

  • Serve as the main point of contact for the Network. Identify members of the steering committee who can effectively represent the Network in public forums, as the Network Manager is not expected to act as the public face of IDN.
  • In conjunction with the organization members develop a communications strategy that aligns with the overall vision of the Network.
  • Oversee and execute all Network communications, which include creating content for newsletters, the website, and social media; organizing events and delivering presentations; writing press releases; and occasionally stepping in as the spokesperson for the Coalition when required.
  • Maintain a professional image and tone that embodies the values of the Network.

Qualifications:

  • We are looking for an ideal candidate with at least 3-5 years of experience in network management. This includes setting and executing strategies, collaborating within coalitions, managing projects, facilitating meetings, co-developing and co-implementing communication plans.
  • A strong commitment to immigrant justice, racial equity, and transformative movement building is essential.
  • The candidate should also have proven experience in network coordination, campaign planning, or network development.
  • Possessing strong facilitation skills and the ability to navigate complex power dynamics with integrity and empathy is crucial.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, along with knowledge of Minnesota’s political and social landscape.
  • The candidate should be capable of working both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Demonstrable time management skills and the time availability to prioritize the IDN.

Compensation:

The total compensation for the initial 18-month contract will not exceed $135,000.

An extension of the contract may be possible, depending on the availability of additional funding.

The funding period for the ‘IDN MN network’ project runs from June 2025- November 2026. Payment for services will be made based on agreed deliverables and milestones, accompanied by a signed invoice approved by the main program contract. Invoices will be paid on a monthly basis for the work completed in the previous month and must include itemized descriptions of activities and deliverables.

Additional Information:

The contracted individual will receive support from COPAL’s Organizing Director, communications staff, a contracted evaluator, and assistance from members of the Steering Committee and the network.

Implementation Considerations / Administrative Support:

The contractor will have access to the Host Organization’s IT support, Zoom and Microsoft Teams accounts, as well as an @idn.org email account. It is required that the contractor provides their own computer or equipment to fulfill their contract obligations. The contractor will also have access to a contact management account, such as Every Action, along with optional access to the Host Organization’s office and meeting space. Completing a 1099 form will be necessary.
