Claudia L.

Workers’ Center Director

Originating from El Salvador amidst the turbulent Civil War, Claudia Lainez’s life is an embodiment of resilience and unwavering dedication. At the tender age of 17, Claudia embarked on a transformative journey, immigrating to the United States. Her experiences as an immigrant forged an unbreakable resolve to champion the rights of TPS holders and undocumented immigrants, becoming a defining mission in her life.

Formerly a pivotal organizer with the National TPS Alliance (NTPSA), Claudia’s commitment to rectifying the injustices faced by marginalized communities knows no bounds. Her journey led her to the heart of Minnesota, drawn by the compelling mission of COPAL’s Workers’ Center.

At COPAL, Claudia spearheads initiatives at the Centro de Trabajadores Primero De Mayo, launched in May 2021 in South Minneapolis. This center stands as a beacon of hope, rallying Latino workers to reclaim lost wages, confront employment discrimination, access vital unemployment benefits, and forge pathways to vocational training and job placements.

Claudia recognizes the profound hurdles that impede our community’s path to a dignified existence. She is unwavering in her commitment to dismantle oppressive systems and challenge exploitative working conditions, making tangible strides in reshaping the narrative for marginalized workers in Minneapolis.
