COPAL Calls on Congress to Reject So-Called “Big Beautiful Bill”

Today, the U.S. Senate passed an anti-immigrant and anti-worker megabill, after it was already approved by the U.S. House of Representatives. Now, the bill returns to the House for reapproval.

This bill is not beautiful. It is brutal. It is a slap in the face to working-class, immigrant, and Latine families across the country.

It slashes vital programs such as Medicaid and SNAP which our communities rely on for basic health care and food security. SNAP supports nearly 1 in 13 Minnesotans, two thirds of whom are families with children, highlighting the harsh impact on families. This new bill is detrimental to our communities.

At the same time, this bill gives tax breaks to billionaires while taking green job opportunities away from our youth. It pours billions into immigrant detention and border militarization, tearing families apart and criminalizing survival. And it adds trillions to the national debt—all while destroying our social safety net.

Let us be clear: at COPAL, we believe in policies that protect our people, not harm them. We stand for a Minnesota where everyone has access to health, food, dignity, and opportunity.

Minnesota’s Latine communities are watching closely. We are organizing, mobilizing, and ready to hold lawmakers accountable. And we will remember who voted to take food from our children, medicine from our elders, and dignity from our families.

The fight is not over. We call on our U.S. representatives to vote NO. And we call on you, our community, to take action and make your voice heard.
