COPAL Condemns ICE Shooting During Minneapolis HSI Investigation

Minneapolis, MN —COPAL is deeply alarmed and heartbroken by the rapidly intensifying of violence perpetuated by federal immigration agents in the Twin Cities, which resulted in preventable loss of life today of a community member during an HSI investigation. Video footage and eyewitness accounts confirm that Renee Nicole Good was acting peacefully and only drove off after being shot at by agents, ultimately crashing into a light post and parked vehicles. This tragic loss happened amid a broader pattern of aggressive enforcement by federal agents, including the use of chemical irritants and rubber bullets, endangering both community members and Constitutional Observers.

This act is an unacceptable and dangerous abuse of power. ICE’s actions continue to endanger lives and terrorize communities. This devastating incident underscores what our communities have been saying for years: ICE activity does not make our neighborhoods safer—it puts everyone at risk.

COPAL calls on Minnesota’s elected officials to:

• Demand an immediate injunction against ICE activities in Minnesota

• Launch a full investigation into violence against Renee Nicole Good

• Pass state and local policies that hold ICE and HSI to the same ideals we seek from other law enforcement: transparency, accountability, and due process

We stand firmly and unapologetically in solidarity with all brave community members who put themselves at risk to peacefully uphold civil rights. Violence and intimidation will not deter our movement. We will continue to organize, document abuses, and demand an end to enforcement practices that rely on fear, force, and harm.

Our communities deserve safety, dignity, and justice.
