Today, COPAL mourns the passing of Dolores Huerta, a pioneering labor and civil rights leader whose lifelong commitment to justice transformed the lives of working families and inspired generations of organizers across the country.
Through decades of organizing, Huerta helped farmworkers fight for fair wages, safer working conditions, and the right to organize for a better future. She helped bring the struggles of working people into the public eye and showed what becomes possible when communities come together to demand dignity and justice.
Dolores Huerta taught us that lasting change begins when ordinary people come together, organize, and demand the dignity and opportunities they deserve. As a Latina leader, she challenged injustice, elevated the voices of workers and immigrant communities, and demonstrated the extraordinary power of collective action.
Her legacy is deeply connected to the work we continue in Minnesota. Every time we stand alongside immigrant families, defend workers’ rights, encourage civic participation, or organize our communities to build a better future, we carry forward the principles she dedicated her life to advancing.
We honor not only her accomplishments, but also her courage, resilience, and unwavering belief in the power of people to create change.
To her family, loved ones, and the countless communities she inspired, we extend our deepest condolences.
Dolores Huerta reminded us: “Sí se puede.” Today, we honor her life by continuing the work.
Con respeto, gratitud y compromiso.
