MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Today, COPAL, a leading member-based organization established to improve the quality of life for Latines in Minnesota, issued the following statement:
COPAL stands firmly at the forefront of this critical moment in our nation’s history. This campaign season, our mission has been clear: to elevate Latine voters to raise our voices and stand together against the harmful policies and rhetoric that seek to dehumanize our communities. We will not remain silent in the face of injustice.
We reject the dangerous proposals put forth by President-elect Donald Trump, especially those that target immigrant families and threaten our fundamental civil rights. These policies are not just misguided—they are a direct attack on the values of fairness, respect, and dignity that we hold dear.
In Minnesota, COPAL’s advocacy over the last few years has been critical in helping to pass important bills in the state legislature, such as Driver’s License for All, One Economy for Minnesota and Paid Family Medical Leave. With the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party continuing to hold a majority in the Minnesota Senate and an even split in the Minnesota House of Representatives, COPAL remains dedicated to advancing the needs and aspirations of our community. We are committed to working with allies across Minnesota to continue advocating for policies that protect and uplift Latine families and drive meaningful change statewide.
COPAL needs your support now more than ever. Countries are reorganizing, alliances are changing, and conflicts are emerging. We are calling on our allies and supporters to contribute to the movement—financially, strategically, and in solidarity. Your contribution will help us expand our efforts to advocate for Latine families, organize our communities, and fight for policies that protect our rights and advance our vision for a more inclusive future. The work ahead is daunting, but we are a movement.
We are encouraged by the large number of voters from our Latine community who showed up to make their voices heard. Thank you for turning out to vote even in the face of voter suppression, voter intimidation, underinvestment, disinformation, and misinformation. We urge our community not to lose hope, and to continue fighting for a better life. Your voice and your vote remain crucial to creating the change we wish to see.
Take action today. Join us in making the change we seek, and to protect what we have built by contributing to COPAL’s ongoing efforts. Together, we can ensure every family has the opportunity to succeed.
Thank you for standing with us.
In solidarity,
COPAL
