COPAL Demands Accessible and Dignified Healthcare in Minnesota

Today, COPAL joined partners including Healthcare for All Minnesota, People’s Action, and TakeAction MN in advocating for access to health resources for all Minnesotans.

We believe that everyone deserves access to high-quality healthcare, regardless of their background or financial status. However, the current private health insurance system prioritizes profits over people, leaving policyholders vulnerable to denied claims and financial hardship. We demand accountability from private insurers, transparency in denial data, and an end to their undue influence on our political system.

As Becky Valencia shared from her own experience, ‘Latinos and all communities are being affected by the lack of access to affordable and culturally competent health care. WE ALL deserve a dignified life in Minnesota.’

Becky, a proud team member of COPAL, recounted her childhood journey of advocating for her Spanish-speaking mother during her battle with cancer. Despite facing denials and accruing thousands in medical debt, Becky’s family’s story is emblematic of the challenges that Latines across Minnesota face in accessing affordable healthcare.

Our vision is a future where healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and where a universal healthcare program can provide equitable access to essential care. It’s time to prioritize people over corporate profits and ensure that healthcare is a fundamental human right for all.
