COPAL is dedicated to improving the lives of Latines in Minnesota, and our Youth Program’s recent policy recommendations to the Metropolitan Council highlight this commitment. By addressing the critical issues of economic and housing barriers faced by undocumented individuals, we’re taking significant steps towards equality and dignity for all.
Key Recommendations for the Met Council:
Encourage the acceptance of both SSN and ITIN for public programs, supporting legislative efforts to enhance access for ITIN holders.
Advocate for more extensive and affordable public transport options to connect our community to essential services and job opportunities.
Push for better education and English language classes to gives community members more agency and improve job prospects.
Aim for policies that ensure affordable housing is available near employment areas to tackle high living costs and discrimination.
These recommendations represent a call to action for stakeholders at all levels to engage in meaningful dialogue and implement changes. By working together, we can create a more inclusive society where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
